Project 11......Wireless Mobile Charging Project:

Wireless Mobile Charging Project:

The present day technologies and discoveries are leaning towards a world which is filled with completely wireless and mobile devices. These innovations have made it seem as if though were living in the future. The brilliant thinkers have made it possible for us to have access to information a million miles away in a matter of a few seconds. Home automation allows users to perform tasks even if they are far away from their homes. Thus, technology is an ever constantly changing force, determined to make lives simpler for the entire mankind. Most of the systems currently present are based on smartphones, tablets, portable music players and likewise mobile devices. As we involve in acquiring more and more of these mobile devices, we have become well aware of the fact that they are dependent on power to operate meaning that sooner or later they would have to be charged. For decades, these devices have followed the old traditional trend of being charged via a wire system. Each device has its own specific cable meaning that when dealing with multiple devices at the same time, the cables can become one big irritable jumble of wires that takes a lot of time to untangle. This has led to the discoverers finding a way that could help a system that would no longer require these snake-like wires and could charge multiple systems at a time. The answer? Wireless charging systems!

Thats right, science has made it possible for methods to exist which can transfer power from a gadget to the device in question without needing a wire to interconnect them. Wireless charging is a convenient source of powering up our smartphones without the fuss of any wires attached. Also known as inductive charging systems, these wireless charges emit an alternating current through a transmitter coil. The transmitter coil promptly induces a voltage in the devices receiving coil. However, keep in mind that a smartphone will not charge itself and requires wireless charging pads for this to occur. But the process of wireless charging is very simple as the device only has to be plugged into the charging pad for the power transfer to take place. Care should be taken to confirm that the users smartphone is compatible with the wireless charging.

Even though wireless charging has been in existence for around a few years now it hasnt become as widely adopted a technology as wed like. Nevertheless, many popular phone companies have started to embrace the concept of wireless charging. Some part of the credit of wireless charging goes to the students of engineering departments, electrical and computer in particular. They have taken up on wireless mobile charging systems as their final year projects quite keenly. For many years, wireless charging has been a subject of great interest to Masters students and theyve contributed a lot to it by the research conducted in their MS thesis.

Reading the above description gives us a fair idea about how amazing wireless chargers can be. One of the many wonders about wireless charging is how simple it is to use it. A user only has to plug in his mobile phone in the charging pad without the involvement of mobile adapters. The wireless charging pads utilize the concept of advanced power transfer. A high frequency transform is integrated into the system that converts the main input from 230 Volts AC to 12 Volts DC. This output is provided to the charging pads coil then. Once the adapter coil is in the range of the charging pads coil, the receiving coil accepts the wireless power transfer. The 12 Volts DC is supplied to the adapter circuit so that it can convert it to 5 Volts DC. This power is delivered to the smartphone thereby allowing us to charge our phone wirelessly.

Qi and Powermat are the most famous companies known for promoting wireless charging pads. Using cables to charge our phones limits their life as the micro USB ports start to bend over with time whereas wireless charging reduces wear and tear. Smartphones require special back plates for wireless charging to take place. The advent of wireless charging has only added comfort to peoples lives. Instead of carrying bulky chargers around, a person can just sit back and relax and place his/her mobile phone on the table for it to begin charging.
