Project 2 ........ ERP System for Institutes:

ERP System for Institutes:

With the increase in the computerization of various departments in institutes, the increase for their proper management also increased. This made a new market place for ERP vendors. ERP stands for Enterprise Resource Planning, which are systems that helps us in organizing important business functions in an organization by implementing joint information architecture. The main function of an ERP is to formulate a system that can link all units and all business functions of an organization into one unified system that can fulfil the requirements of the entire organization. By applying such solutions the efficiency of the company is improved. Moreover, the quality, output and cost- effectiveness of the organization is enhanced. The challenging part for such systems is to manage large databases with thousands of users within the whole organization.

Universities and colleges usually have numerous departments and courses. Supervision of all these departments, and within each department number of batches and courses is a very problematic, ineffective and expensive task. ERP system for such institutes is an applicable solution. The Educational ERP contains LMS (Learning Management System) incorporated into it and therefore can manage both Learning and Management aspects of the institution. The system comprises of number of features that can assist students, faculty members and the administration department. The system consists of solutions for examination section along with control panel for teachers and coaching placement department. Student and teachers need to log in using their unique user IDs and passwords. Once the students and teachers are logged in they can communicate with each other for assignments, quizzes and online classes. Student databases are needed by the faculty members for various reasons such as students attendance can be entered into the database which can later be viewed by the respective students and teachers. Students have the access to view their personal attendance, previous results of various subjects and timetable provided by their departments. The administrative departments have access to all the accounts. They can update information like timetables, results and other information which can be view on the web portal. The system can have a section of careers where admin can post vacancies and the criteria of selection for these vacancies.

They key features for this system includes students accounts, faculty accounts, Admin Login, new admissions, fees, hostel, library issues, grades, transport fees adding timetables of exams and classes, attendance management and vacancies etc.

A lot of money and time is being spent for the development of these systems. Therefore, it seems a little difficult that any of these systems might be replaced by new ones. It is also improbable to expect the formation of new systems in such a small market of ERP systems as it requires large amount of money. Education systems are often very dynamic which is why the upgrading of such systems is very difficult. Despite many improvements if the system crashes in some way the whole institute is affected. This can be considered a high degree of risk for the institutes.
